Why Screening

  • As per Indian Council of Medical Research data, India will have over 17.3 lakh cancer cases by 2020 -- a doubling of cases in 25 years.
  • It may see over 8.8 lakh deaths due to the disease, with only 12.5 per cent of the patients receiving treatment in early stages.
  • Cancer is the second most common cause of death in India.
  • There are more than 100 types of cancers; almost any part of the body can be affected.
  • The five most frequent cancers (ranking defined by total number of cases account around 47.2% of all cancers) in India in men and women are breast, cervical, oral cavity, lung and colorectal.
  • These top five cancers in men and women can be prevented, for and/or detected early and treated at an early stage.
